Por fin llegmos a Auckland! Fueron 13 horas de vuelo direco desde santiago a nz, pero llenos de ansiedad por ya bajarnos de ese avión y empezar a explorar.
La pasada por migraciones, fue un poco caótica con los 5 bolsos enormes que llevábamos, donde 2 eran de ropa y tres de indumentria outdoor... por lo que casi nos revisan hasta los calzones, a ver si no traíamos algún bicho o material que pueda afectar el ecosistema del país.
Memories in a box in a garage, furniture sold, full of expectations and without a plan we arrive in Auckland. Apart from the casual clothing, there is the kayak, wetssuit, tent, spearfishing gear, boots, peddles, 100 kg of solid preparation for a few months in NZ.
Llegamos a la casita donde nos quedaríamos los primeros días mientrasn nos acomodábamos, organizábamos un poco en la ciudad, hacíamos un poco de tramites antes de empezar a recorrer el país en auto. Conseguimos la casa vía Air bnb donde la dueña de casa fue muy amable y cordial con nosotros, nos sentíamos como en casa... y el lugar donde estábamos ubicados era espectacular ... el-barrio se llamaba Sunnynook ... muy tranquilo, residencial, y en 15 minutos llegábamos al centro de Auckland en bus (el sistema de buses lo encontramos espectacular... todo funcionaba correctamente, expedito, como debe ser).
Estuvimos en total como 7 días en Auckland, entre los cuales fuimos muchas veces al centro, hicimos una caminata llamada ¨Walk Coast to Coast¨donde caminamos 16 km, pasamos por parques... sendero entre bosques, subimos 2 volcanes desde donde uno de ellos teníamos un mirador donde podíamos ver el Océano Pacífico y por el otro lado el océano tasman... fue linda la caminata, aunque un poco agotadora dado que solo llevamos una botella de 1Lt y medio de agua...
Auckland, situated on 50 volcanoes, with at least the same amount of nationalities and thousands of sail boats is an ideal city to inspire the relax we are looking for. The title of one of the most liveable cities is well deserved due to its geographical position on both oceans, laid back kiwis, variety of cuisines, no appartments only houses and beautiful and entertaining last decade city planning such as wynyard quarter. Water does to a city what salt and pepper do to an omelet, it gives it a certain flavour. Auckland breathes water and breathes flavours. Where are we going to settle after this adventure again.....?
Es una ciudad preciosa, la gente amable, siempre con una sonrisa... yo creo que al estra rodeados de agua ya de por si te cambia el estado de animo, es como si todos anduvieran ¨veraneando en vacaciones¨... hicimos un paseo por Wynyard quearter... un paseo por todo el borde costero y puerto donde embarcan los cruceros... los últimos días en Auckland estuvimos en casa de un amigo de Johan que nos recibió con mucha hospitalidad en su aacogedora casa llena de sofás y pieles de animales ... una terraza desde donde tenias vista hacia un bosque, y todo esto en pleno centro de la ciudad... nos deleitaron la ultima noche con un BBQ koreano ... (su esposa es koreana) lo disfrutamos muchísimo ...
Se que aun es muy pronto para decir que Auckland estaría dentro de mi lista de posibles ciudades para vivir, pero si... es muy linda y uno se proyecta aquí viviendo muy fácilmente!
Definitivamente, podríamos acostumbrarnos a Auckland! :)
A visit to the Auckland Art Gallery took us from Breughel and Reni, imported from the continent as wall paper to their countryside residences by well off English gentlemen and then taken to all corners of the Commonwealth, to contermporary Moari and Islands art. The Coast to Coast walk on its turn took us from the Tasman sea to the Pacific Ocean, over volcanoes, through parks and residential Victorian style neigbourhoods. Finally, and as if Belgian, French and Chilean tax man are not enough we spent some time setting up our NZ tax number and bank account.
Facebook, a virtue or a vice.... What do you do when a travel buddy you haven´t seen in 12 years drops you a line ¨When you need a place to stay in Auckland you are welcome..¨ we took our chance and had an incredible time with the Visser family: Brayden, a kiwi fellow AFS student with whom we travelled Paagonia, his lovely wife Sunny from Korean descendance but all the more Kiwi and the star of the family, 17 month old Sienna who has more energy than all 4 of us....and by the way, how can you not feel at home if the host is part of a 4-brother fammily from dutch descendance. First swim in the Tasman Sea, an absolutely delicious Korean BBQ with sesame leaves, a good glass of quality New Zealand wine (a rare luxury for the rest of the year, mostly the quality bit) and cherry on the cake.... a spearfishing trip to the East coast of Auckland. Thank you Visser Family for your hospitality, the breakfasts, the conversation, the BBQ and the good AFS memories.
